The Veterans Outreach Assistant will work with WTLS staff to identify low-income veterans who may be homeless and facing legal issues, including but not limited to housing instability, consumer debt, obtaining or maintaining benefits, and family law issues. Address housing issues. The individual reports to the Veteran`s program administrator and must be able to work independently. We provide guidance and representation in obtaining or maintaining AFDC/Families First, SNAP, SSI, Social Security Disability, Unemployment, TennCare, Medicare, and access to special education services. You must love family law, including child custody and access and contempt and enforcement after divorce, but you won`t deal with divorce. Experience with the process and previous work with victims or low-income communities is preferred, but not mandatory. Excellent oral, written, analytical, problem-solving and computer skills are required. The position is located in WTLS` Jackson office and requires travel to all 17 districts of the WTLS service area. The successful candidate must be admitted to the Tennessee Bar, be eligible for reciprocity, or await the results of the bar exam. DOE salary. For over forty years, we have been providing free legal aid to those in need. JOB DESCRIPTION: Our admissions department is the first point of contact with WTLS. Admissions staff interview individuals who need WTLS services to determine eligibility, gather facts about cases, identify legal issues, and search for claims. Our Disaster Relief Grant provides services to survivors of federally declared disasters in 2020 and 2021 in our service area. Work under this grant includes outreach to communities affected by recent disasters, direct client support, and administrative assistance for lawyers.
The duties of both positions include simultaneously recording activities and maintaining electronic records in the WTLS case management system. JOB DESCRIPTION: WTLS represents clients in civil law matters and works with not-for-profit organizations and client groups. Nominees must make a strong case for equal access to justice for our low-income neighbors in West Tennessee, who face overwhelming issues regarding the fundamental rights to protective security, income security, financial security, and protection from abuse, for which there is a legal solution. Ashley holds a bachelor`s degree in communications from the University of Tennessee at Martin and received her J.D. from Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. Prior to joining WTLS in 2009, Ashley worked in private practice dealing with consumer insolvency and family law matters. Ashley is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and a member of the executive committee of the Southwest Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability. She was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association`s Leadership Law Class in 2014, was named one of the Jackson Sun`s Top 40 Under 40 in 2015, and received the B. Riney Green Award in 2017.
